South African rand continues to weaken against the dollar

By Ricky Bean September 10th, 2014

  • The South African rand fell again, reaching its lowest point in over six months, as the deficit in the current account widened by a larger margin than anticipated. This was down to a poor second quarter.
  • The Indian rupee also weakened yesterdaay by the most in more than a month against the US dollar, while the Canadian dollar fell to its lowest price in five months against its US counterpart, thanks to the speculation over an improving US economy, and expectations that the US would increase interest rates sooner than expected and before the Bank of Canada increases Canadian interest rates.
